Tent Hire in the Winelands
Estate lawns are the best ground we pitch on: large, level and they take a peg cleanly. The hazard is what runs 400mm beneath them, because that is exactly where a tent peg goes and irrigation is rarely mapped. Add slope, farm-track access after rain, and harvest traffic from February through April.
Estate lawns are the best ground in the Cape — with one hazard
Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschhoek and Wellington offer exactly what Paper City needs from a site: large, level, well-kept lawns that take a peg cleanly. It is the easiest pitching in the region by some distance.
The hazard is what is under them. Estate and farm lawns are irrigated, and our pegs go 400–500mm into the ground. Irrigation lines, borehole feeds and cabling to outbuildings are exactly at that depth and are rarely mapped. Ask the venue or the farm manager where the lines run before the day. It takes them two minutes and it has saved a great many burst pipes.
Slope
The Boland is not flat. A good many estate sites sit on a gentle fall towards a dam or a view, and a tent needs either a level pitch or stepped anchoring with adjusted pole heights. A slope is not a problem when we know about it — it is a problem when we arrive expecting level ground. A spot that falls away noticeably in any direction is worth mentioning.
Access on a working farm
Farm gates are built for tractors, so width is almost never the issue. Two other things are:
- Gravel and farm tracks after rain. A loaded trailer on a soft track is how a delivery becomes a recovery. In winter we ask to come earlier in the day or park further out and carry.
- Harvest, roughly February to April. Working estates have tractor and bin traffic on the access roads and limited yard space. It rarely blocks anything, but the timing of our arrival matters more in those months.
Wind in the valleys
Stellenbosch town and the sheltered valleys are among the calmest sites we pitch on. The Paarl and Wellington corridor is different — it channels afternoon gusts down the valley, and the open sites out towards Klapmuts and Simondium catch a good deal more wind than their postcodes suggest.

Winelands questions
Will pegs damage an estate lawn?
No — peg holes close over within a week or two on a maintained lawn. The real risk is irrigation beneath it, which is why we ask where the lines run.
Can you pitch on a slope?
Yes, with stepped anchoring and adjusted pole heights. We just need to know before we load the vehicle.
Do you deliver to Franschhoek?
Yes, inside the included radius. Wellington, Klapmuts and Simondium too.
Which structure suits an estate wedding?
On a sheltered estate lawn a stretch tent frames the vineyards better than anything else. See wedding tent hire.
