Wedding Tent Hire
A tent is what turns a farm, a garden or a wine estate into a venue you can actually seat 120 people at. Stretch tent or marquee is the real decision, and it comes down to how much you will leave to the weather. Sized properly for seated guests, a dance floor and a bar, which is where most couples get caught.
Wedding tent hire, Cape Town and the Winelands
A tent is what makes a farm, a garden or a wine estate work as a venue. It gives you a room where there wasn’t one, and it is the difference between a beautiful site and a beautiful site you can actually seat 120 people at in February.
Stretch tent or marquee for a wedding?
On a Cape wedding this is the real decision, and it comes down to how much you are willing to leave to the weather.
| Stretch tent | Marquee | |
|---|---|---|
| Look | Modern, open, frames the view | Formal, enclosed, a finished room |
| Weather | Waterproof, open sides | Fully closeable, heatable |
| Best season | Oct–Apr | Year-round |
| Interior | No poles, open plan | Linable, dressable |
Detail on each: stretch tent hire and marquee hire.
Sizing a wedding tent
Weddings are seated, and seated guests need roughly double the floor area of standing ones. Add a dance floor (20–25 m²) and a buffet or bar (10–15 m²) on top of the dining area — that is the step most couples miss, and it is why a tent that looked right on paper is cramped on the night.
For 100 seated guests with a dance floor, you are realistically looking at 180–200 m². Rates for that size sit on tent hire prices.
Book early for summer Saturdays. October to March is Cape wedding season and stock is genuinely finite. Six months out is not early for a February Saturday.
Wine estate and farm venues often have their own rules about anchoring, access times and where a structure stands — check with your venue and tell us what they said. Most Winelands weddings we quote are covered on tent hire in the Winelands.
Wedding tent hire prices
Most Cape weddings sit between R3,000 and R6,600 for the structure alone — a 100-guest seated wedding needs roughly a 10×12m stretch tent or a 10×15m marquee once the dance floor and bar are counted.
| Wedding size | Structure that fits | Typical market rate |
|---|---|---|
| 70 guests seated | 10m × 12m stretch, or 6×12m marquee | R3,000 – R4,500 |
| 100 guests seated | 12m × 15m stretch | R5,000 – R6,500 |
| 120 guests seated | 10m × 15m lined marquee | R5,500 – R6,600 |
Furniture, draping and lighting are quoted on the same booking — see table and chair hire and decor hire.
